Electronic equipment is one of the fastest growing categories of solid waste for cities around the country.
Statistics on Consumer Reports' GreenerChoices website are eye-opening. Computers, TVs and cell phones are being thrown in the trash or set aside unused in storage at a fast rate. And if you click on their tab about toxics, you will find information on our landfills collecting lead, chromium, nickel, zinc, cadium and mercury that could leak into the soil and ultimately the ground water. Not to mention metals and plastics that will persist in the environment.
For tips and helpful information on electronic reuse and recycling, be sure and check out GreenerChoices.org and Earth911.com. One handy section on Earth911.com even will help you locate places for recycling of items and materials not accepted curbside.
Together we can make a difference!
